Die Bauchwand wird hauptsächlich durch die Bauchmuskulatur gebildet. Sie umgibt die Organe des Bauches und des Beckens.
Während der Entwicklung im Mutterleib entstehen im Körper viele verschiedene Arten von Gewebe. Aus den verschiedenen Arten von Gewebe entwickeln sich die Organe und Körperteile. Wenn sich Gewebe nicht richtig entwickeln, kann es zu Fehlbildungen kommen.
In diesem Fall hat sich die Bauchwand nicht normal entwickelt. Dadurch besteht eine Lücke in der Bauchwand seitlich neben dem Bauchnabel. Durch diese Lücke sind Organe aus der Bauchhöhle nach außen verlagert. Das betrifft zum Beispiel Teile des Darms. Man kann schwer krank sein, wenn sich Bauchorgane außerhalb des Körpers befinden. Die Bauchorgane sind außerhalb des Körpers anfälliger für Krankheits-Erreger und können sich entzünden. Es kann auch vorkommen, dass Bauchorgane weniger durchblutet werden oder absterben.
