ICD-Code T56.5: Toxic effect: Zinc and its compounds
You have had harmful exposure to zinc or its compounds.
Zinc is a heavy metal. Zinc is used, for example, in industrial applications.
A metal or metal compound can harm the body in various ways. The symptoms often depend on which type of contact the person has had with the metal. For example, skin contact with metal could cause skin damage. Poisoning can occur if a person ingests metal with food or inhales metal vapors.
Zinc may cause chemical burns or gastrointestinal symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea. If zinc is inhaled, it can also cause metal fume fever. This typically causes symptoms such as high temperature, shivering and sore limbs.
