Muskelgewebe wird durch das Blut mit Sauerstoff versorgt. Wenn Blutgefäße oder Muskelgewebe verletzt werden, wird das Muskelgewebe möglicherweise nicht ausreichend durchblutet. Dann erhält das Muskelgewebe nicht ausreichend Sauerstoff, kann dadurch geschädigt werden und absterben. Außerdem kann sich der Druck im Gewebe erhöhen, wenn es in das Gewebe blutet. Auch durch den hohen Druck im Gewebe kann das Muskelgewebe geschädigt werden.

Wenn Muskelgewebe geschädigt wurde, dann kann man Schmerzen haben. Es kann auch sein, dass man betroffene Bereiche des Körpers nicht mehr richtig bewegen kann. Geschädigtes Muskelgewebe kann auch anschwellen oder hart werden. Es ist auch möglich, dass man an den betroffenen Stellen weniger spürt als normalerweise.
