OPS-Code 5-208.3:
Other operations on middle and inner ear: Incision [opening] and destruction [elimination] of the inner ear: Labyrinthectomy, transmastoid
You had the organ of balance in your inner ear removed.
The ear is a sensory organ that is used to hear and to maintain one’s balance. There are 3 different areas in the ear: the outer ear, middle ear and inner ear.The inner ear contains the organs of hearing and balance.
There is a small bony projection on the head behind the ear. It contains small cavities full of air. You can feel this bony projection behind the ear.In order to reach the inner ear during surgery, the bony projection behind your ear was hollowed out or partially removed. The bone surrounding the inner ear was then drilled through in order to remove your organ of balance. The organ of hearing (cochlea) is normally also damaged as part of this procedure.
