OPS-Code 5-874.2:

Excision and resection of the mamma: Extended (radical) mastectomy with resection in the Mm. pectorales majores et minores and partial thoracic wall resection: With complete resection of the Mm. pectorales majores et minores

You have had your breast removed.

The breast is made up of fatty tissue, connective tissue and the mammary gland. Milk is produced in the mammary gland during and after pregnancy so that the child can be fed.

To remove the breast, the mammary gland and other breast tissue were surgically excised. You have also had your large chest muscle and small chest muscle removed.

The large and small chest muscles cover the ribs in the chest area. The chest muscles are used to move the upper arm towards the body’s midline at the front. The chest muscles also allow the upper arm to rotate inwards and they pull the shoulder blades down.

Additional indicator

If necessary, additional letters are appended to OPS codes to indicate which side of the body is affected.

  • L: Left
  • R: Right
  • B: Both sides
