OPS-Code 5-877.12:

Excision and resection of the mamma: Subcutaneous mastectomy and skin-sparing mastectomy procedure: Skin-sparing mastectomy with complete resection of the gland tissue: With tightening of the epidermis and creation of a pedicled corium cutis flap

You have had your mammary gland removed.

The breast is made up of fatty tissue, connective tissue and the mammary gland. Milk is produced in the mammary gland during and after pregnancy so that the child can be fed.

All of your mammary gland has been surgically removed. An incision was made in the skin on your breast for this purpose. The nipple may also be removed. Excess breast skin can also be removed during surgery. However, some of the excess skin is used to form the new breast. For this reason, only the uppermost layer of skin is removed. The lower layer of skin is then used to provide internal support for the breast. The lower layer of skin is connected with the large chest muscle for this purpose.

The large and small chest muscles cover the ribs in the chest area. The chest muscles are used to move the upper arm towards the body’s midline at the front. The chest muscles also allow the upper arm to rotate inwards and they pull the shoulder blades down.

Additional indicator

If necessary, additional letters are appended to OPS codes to indicate which side of the body is affected.
