The intention is for the radiation to damage pathologically altered cells in the body.Radioactive drugs are used for tumors, among other things.The tissue in the body is made up of cells. A tumor disorder involves the cells multiplying more than normal. This results in abnormal or excess tissue forming. A tumor can be benign or malignant.

The cells of the body have typical proteins on their surfaces that differ depending on the type, role and origin of the cell. Pathologically altered cells sometimes have proteins on their surface that differ from the proteins on healthy cells.

Antibodies are defensive substances that occur in the body. However, antibodies can also be synthetically manufactured to treat certain illnesses. Antibodies detect proteins on the surface of cells and bind to them. Each specific antibody only ever binds to the matching protein.

You were given a radioactive drug bound to an antibody via a blood vessel. The drug spreads through the body via the blood. It accumulates in the site in the body where the antibody binds to the relevant protein. The radiation emitted by the radioactive drug takes effect at this site.
