OPS-Code 8-546.0:

Cytostatic chemotherapy, immunotherapy and antiretroviral therapy: Hyperthermic chemotherapy: Hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC)

Heated chemotherapy drugs were delivered into your abdominal cavity during surgery.

This type of chemotherapy is used to treat cancer. The tissue in the body is made up of cells. With cancer, the cells multiply uncontrollably, which leads to a malignant neoplasm (abnormal growth of tissue) developing. The cancer cells can destroy the healthy tissue and spread throughout the body.

The abdominal organs are located in the abdominal cavity. Cancer cells have accumulated in your abdominal cavity. Tissues affected by cancer were surgically removed. However, individual cancer cells may remain in the abdominal cavity. Chemotherapy was also used during your operation to eliminate the tiniest remnants of cancer cells. Heated chemotherapy drugs were circulated through your abdominal cavity for this purpose. This involved pumping the drugs into the abdominal cavity through tubes. The drugs were heated to increase the effect of the chemotherapy.
