A26.8: Other forms of erysipeloid

You have been infected with erysipelas.

Erysipelas is caused by certain bacteria. The bacteria occur in pigs, poultry, fish, crabs and shellfish, for example. You can become infected by having contact with infected animals or processing them. The bacteria can get into the skin via a small lesion.

The skin can become inflamed and swell up at the affected location. Reddish to blueish discoloration can occur, and spread over time. The location affected can also burn or itch. The lymph nodes in the affected area can also be swollen.

You can also have problems in your airways, joints or heart.
