B37.5: Candidal meningitis

You have a fungal condition in the lining of your brain.

On the outside of the brain and spinal cord there are three thin meninges (linings). A tough meninx, the dura mater, is on the outside. Below that are two soft meninges.

You have got a fungus that has spread. In most people, yeast occurs on the mucous membranes in the mouth, throat and digestive tract. This is normal. The yeast sometimes spreads more than usual. This can happen when the defense system is weak, for example. The defense system can be weakened by certain illnesses or medicines. It may also be weakened if the liver stops working properly.

In your case the fungus has spread to the lining of your brain. As a result, your meninges have become inflamed. When the lining of the brain is inflamed, you can have headaches or neck pain, for example.
