B94.0: Sequelae of trachoma
An eye condition has damaged tissue in your eye area.
The eye condition is caused by specific bacteria. The bacteria are called chlamydia. Chlamydia can do long-term damage to the conjunctiva and the cornea in the eye.
The cornea is located at the front of the eye. It is transparent and curved. The curvature focuses light in the eye. This is vital to be able to see clearly. The transparent conjunctiva covers the eye and the inside of the eyelids. Along with the tears, the conjunctiva forms a liquid film on the eye. Together, the conjunctiva, the eyelids, and the liquid film on the eye all protect the eye from external agents. The conjunctiva also helps defend against pathogens.
If your cornea is badly damaged, you can go blind in the affected eye.
