D69.1: Qualitative platelet defects

Your platelets are not working properly. This has led to you bleeding.

Platelets are important for blood clotting. They are formed in the bone marrow. Your platelets are not formed properly, or they lack certain substances that help them to work properly. This means you are bleeding more heavily than other people when you injure yourself or have to be operated on.

This illness can be congenital, but can also be caused by drugs or other illnesses.
