D86.1: Sarcoidosis of lymph nodes

You have a disease called sarcoidosis.

Sarcoidosis is a condition that causes red and swollen tissue to develop in the body.

It is not yet known how or why this condition develops. A person’s own immune system probably attacks the tissue. As a result, the tissue becomes inflamed and is damaged. It is usually the lungs that become inflamed with sarcoidosis. This can cause shortness of breath with exertion or the urge to keep coughing, for example.

However, the condition can also affect other areas of the body. This means that the internal organs, eyes or skin can become inflamed. As a result, you may have various symptoms. You can feel weak and tired, for example. The disease is affecting your lymph nodes. The lymph nodes are small bean-shaped objects. They are found throughout the body. Lymph nodes filter the tissue fluid. They are part of the defense system.
