E22.2: Syndrome of inappropriate secretion of antidiuretic hormone

You have too much of a specific messenger substance (hormone) in your body. As a result, you have too little dissolved sodium in your blood.

Messenger substances affect many processes in the body. A messenger substance affects the concentration of dissolved sodium in the blood and urine. This messenger substance is called adiuretin. In your case, too much of the messenger substance adiuretin is being created. This happens for instance with various diseases in the brain. But other diseases can also affect the amount of this messenger substance.

If you have too much of this messenger substance in your blood, then you have too little dissolved sodium in your blood. Excess sodium is excreted during urination. As a result, you may have headaches or feel nauseous. If there is much too little sodium in the blood, you may also become unconscious.
