E85.1: Neuropathic heredofamilial amyloidosis
You have a hereditary disease, which means you were born with it.
With this disease, proteins are being deposited at various sites in the body where they do not belong. Proteins have been deposited in your nerves.
As a result, you may have various symptoms. Consequently, your hands and feet may for instance feel numb or have an unpleasant tingling. It may also no longer be possible to move the muscles so well. If the proteins are deposited in the intestines, the intestines may no longer be able to work properly. You may then have diarrhea or constipation. Nutrients from food may also no longer be able to be properly absorbed. In that case, you may also lose weight. If the heart is damaged by too much protein, it may no longer be able to work as well. The heart may then no longer pump blood sufficiently through the body. As a result, you may no longer be as efficient or you might get out of breath more quickly. The heart may also no longer beat at the right rhythm.
