G57.6: Lesion of plantar nerve

Your plantar nerve is changed or damaged.

The plantar nerve begins beneath the inner ankle and gives off small branches through the foot. These branch nerves run between the small foot muscles to the various toes. The plantar nerve controls various small muscles in the foot. It enables us to brace our big toe and flex our toes, for example. The plantar nerve is also responsible for sensation on the sole of the foot.

When the plantar nerve is changed or damaged, it can cause pain, tingling or a numbness on the sole of the foot, for example.

The plantar nerve may be changed or damaged as a result of pressure, for example. This may be temporary or lasting.
