H05.4: Enophthalmos
One of your eyes is lying deeper, or it seems to be lying deeper, in its socket.
The eye socket is a bony cavity in the face part of the skull. It is cone-shaped and padded with fatty tissue. Within it, the eye is well protected. The eye muscles, the tear duct and the optic nerve are also located in the eye socket.
There can be various reasons why one's eye is lying deeper in its socket. The fatty tissue behind the eye may have degenerated, for example. Another possibility is that the bony wall of the eye socket behind the eye has changed. It may also be that your eye is only seeming to be lying deeper. This may be due to your lower eyelid being higher than normal.
