I01.0: Acute rheumatic pericarditis
An immune system response has caused inflammation of your pericardium, the protective sac surrounding your heart.
You have become infected some time ago with certain bacteria. These bacteria typically cause throat inflammation or tonsil inflammation. One way the immune system fights bacteria is with antibodies. Certain antibodies can also damage the body’s own tissue. Different symptoms are caused by damage to different types if tissue.
The infection has caused your pericardium to become inflamed. The heart is composed of a thick layer of muscle and a thin membrane inside the heart. An external sac, the pericardium, surrounds the heart. This sac consists of a protective membrane. Pericarditis, inflammation of the pericardium, can cause a high temperature and chest pain.
