J34.1: Cyst and mucocele of nose and nasal sinus

A cavity with fluid or mucus has formed in your nose or sinuses.

We need the nose for breathing and smelling. The inside of the nose is coated with a smooth, moist membrane. This membrane is also called the mucous membrane.

The sinuses are connected to the nose via a small opening. The sinuses are cavities in the skull that are filled with air. The sinuses are also lined with mucous membrane.

In your case, a cavity has formed under the mucous membrane in the nose or a sinus. This cavity is filled with fluid or mucus. A full cavity can grow larger and constrict what is around it. As a result, the fluid from the sinuses may no longer be able to run off into the nose.
