J99.22: Stage 2 chronic pulmonary graft-versus-host disease

In the past you were given stem cells from another person. The donor’s immune cells have been attacking your lungs for a long time.

You need lungs to breath. When you breathe in, the air with the oxygen passes through the airways to the lungs. The respiratory tract ends in the air sacs in the lungs. Oxygen passes into the blood in the pulmonary alveoli (air sacs). The pulmonary alveoli and the airways are surrounded by supportive tissue. This supportive tissue consists of connective tissue.

The donor’s immune cells are attacking the small airways in your lungs. The airways in the lungs have thus become inflamed. Due to the inflammation, the airways have become moderately constricted. As a result, less air is able to get into the lungs. Your lungs are thus not able to absorb as much oxygen as normal.
