K71.1: Toxic liver disease with hepatic necrosis

Your liver was damaged. As a result, a part of your liver is dead.

The liver is an important organ on the top right of the abdomen. For example, it helps with blood clotting and detoxifying the body. Nutrients from food are processed in the liver.

Your liver was so severely damaged by toxic substances that a part of the liver tissue is dead. These toxic substances can for instance be medications, chemical substances such as plant-based toxins or drugs. But toxic substances produced naturally in the body can also damage the liver. These toxic substances are produced in the metabolism every day. Depending on how severely the liver was damaged, it may no longer be able to perform its normal tasks.

At first, you will often feel exhausted and very tired. Nausea and a loss of appetite are other common symptoms. A high temperature and joint pain are also possible sometimes. The skin may later turn yellow and the urine will appear darker. The skin on the entire body may itch. The feces is sometimes no longer brown, but much lighter in color than usual.
