K83.01: Secondary sclerosing cholangitis

You have a disorder that involves the biliary tracts being inflamed over a long period of time and hardening as a result.

The gallbladder is in the top right part of the abdomen below the liver. The liver produces bile. The bile flows through bile ducts to the gallbladder and is stored there. When needed, the bile flows through another bile duct to the intestine. There, the bile helps to digest fats.

Your bile ducts have been inflamed for a long time. If the bile ducts are inflamed for a long time they may harden. As a result, the bile is then no longer able to drain away as well as usual. With this type of inflammation or hardening of the bile ducts, you can get tired and your skin might itch. You can have fever and pain in the top right of the abdomen. The whites of your eyes or the skin may turn yellow.

The inflammation can occur in the bile ducts due to another disorder or injuries, for example.
