L94.6: Ainhum

You have a condition where a deepening furrow forms on fingers or toes.

This condition causes a furrow to form on one or more toes or fingers. The furrow surrounds the toe or finger like a ring and can get deeper and deeper over the years. The finger or toe can swell up behind the furrow. Over time, the furrow can become so deep that the finger or toe dies and then falls off.

This condition mainly appears on the little toes. However, it can also be found on other toes or on the fingers.

The exact cause of this condition is not yet known. However, what is known is that this condition causes a kind of band to form under the skin. This band becomes gradually narrower over time. The band consists of solid connective tissue fibers. The fibers of the connective tissue normally strengthen the skin.
