M24.66: Ankylosis of joint Lower leg
A joint in your knee has stiffened up.
The knee joint connects the thighbone (femur) to the lower leg. The kneecap is also part of the knee joint. There are 2 bones in the lower leg. These bones are called the tibia (shinbone) and fibula. There is also a joint immediately below the knee joint between the tibia and fibula. The joint just below your knee may also have stiffened up.
Joints may get stiff due to inflammation, for example. This can result in scars that restrict movement. The bones in the joint may also grow too much so that they impede movement. When a joint stiffens up completely, it becomes impossible to move.
