M66.24: Spontaneous rupture of extensor tendons Hand

You have a torn tendon in your hand.

Tendons are made up of very firm connective tissue. Tendons attach muscles to bones. Some tendons belong to muscles that extend a joint. These tendons are called extensor tendons. Some tendons belong to muscles that flex a joint. These tendons are called flexor tendons.

You have torn extensor tendons.

Your tendons have torn while making normal movements and without any major force being exerted. Tendons can tear fully or partially. This can occur when tendons are already damaged so that they are not as firm as usual.

When tendons tear it can be painful. The affected area can swell up. It may also no longer be possible to move the affected part of the body as well as normal.
