M67.48: Ganglion Other
One or more ganglion cysts have formed in your head, neck or upper body.
Your fluid-filled cavities have formed in a joint capsule or tendon sheath.
Tendons are made up of very firm connective tissue. Tendons attach muscles to bones. A tendon sheath is a covering for the tendon. It cushions the tendon and contains a small amount of fluid. This reduces friction between the tendon and its surroundings. Joints are encased in a joint capsule. The joint capsule contains synovial fluid. This enables the bones to slide easily past one another.
Fluid-filled cavities in a joint capsule or tendon sheath are also known as ganglion cysts. They can occur as a result of over-use and wear-and-tear.
These ganglion cysts may be visible externally, or they may be noticeable beneath the skin. This can also result in pain.
