N76.2: Acute vulvitis

Your external genital organs are inflamed.

The external female genital organs include the labia, the clitoris and the skin around the vagina.

Inflammation occurs in the external genital organs when pathogens enter the tissue and multiply there. Pathogens can enter tissue through small injuries, for example. Pathogens may also multiply more than usual as a result of certain types of medication.

Women may experience itching and a burning sensation in the skin around the vagina as a result of the inflammation. They will also experience pain, particularly when urinating.
