N99.5: Malfunction of external stoma of urinary tract

The artificial opening from your urinary passages (stoma) is not working properly.

The urinary passages include the ureters, bladder and urethra. Urine flows from both kidneys into the bladder via the ureters. The urethra channels the urine outward from the bladder. You have an artificial opening from your urinary passages (stoma) that is not working properly. An artificial opening allows the urinary passages to connect to the outside of the body through the abdomen. This is designed to allow urine to be eliminated directly via the skin.

There are various reasons why an artificial opening in the urinary passages might not work properly. For example, the opening may be blocked. This may be due to deposits, for example. The artificial opening may also have slipped out of position. If this happens, urine cannot flow out of the body properly.
