O08.2: Embolism following abortion and ectopic and molar pregnancy
You have an obstruction in one or more blood vessels due to your pregnancy ending prematurely.
This type of premature end to pregnancy may involve a miscarriage or a hydatidiform mole (molar pregnancy), for example. A hydatidiform mole is when a child fails to form a fertilized egg cell, and a benign tumor develops instead. It may also be a case of a pregnancy that failed to develop in the normal area inside the womb.
Blood vessels can get blocked when various substances mingle with the blood and then get stuck in the blood vessel. This may be clotted blood, drops of amniotic fluid, air or other substances, for example. When a blood vessel is blocked, organs or tissue, for example, may no longer get an adequate supply of oxygen and nutrients. As a result the organs or tissue involved may get damaged.
