O34.30: Maternal care where cervical length measured during transvaginal ultrasound scans is less than 10 mm or funnelling detected
It is thought that, or it has been diagnosed that, your cervix is too short or too wide.
The uterus or womb sits in the pelvis and is pear-shaped. The narrower part extends downward into the vagina and is called the cervix. When a woman is pregnant, the child grows in her uterus. There is a canal in the cervix that connects the vagina to the inside of the uterus.
The cervix can be shorter or wider than usual. In the upper part of the cervix, in particular, it can be wider and open out like a funnel.
The cervix can shorten for a number of different reasons. These reasons include, for example, surgery or pathogens.
