O63.0: Prolonged first stage (of labour)
Your first stage of labor lasted longer than usual.
During labor, the muscles of the uterus contract. During the birth contractions push the child out of the uterus. Contractions take place mainly towards the end of the pregnancy and during childbirth.
The lower part of the uterus extends downwards into the vagina and is called the cervix. There is a canal in the cervix that connects the vagina to the inside of the uterus. The orifice at the end of this canal is called the mouth of the womb (ostium uteri).
Labor can be divided into different stages. The first stage is when you have regular contractions. Due to the contractions and the pressure of the child’s body, the cervix shortens and the mouth of the womb dilates. This stage is called the first stage.
Your first stage lasted longer than usual.
