Q25.7: Other congenital malformations of pulmonary artery
Your pulmonary artery did not develop properly before you were born.
Major, important blood vessels branch out of the heart. The main artery (aorta), originating from the left lower chamber (ventricle) of the heart, supplies the whole body with oxygen-rich blood. The right ventricle pumps oxygen-poor blood through the pulmonary artery to the lungs, where the blood is then enriched with oxygen.
If the pulmonary artery has not developed properly, these arteries may be wider or narrower than normal, for example. The artery wall may also be very thin or weak. In addition, the arteries may follow a different path than normal.
If the pulmonary artery has not developed properly, the heart or lungs may be put under greater strain than normal. This means that you may have reduced stamina or quickly become short of breath with physical exertion.
