Your hip joint is shaped differently than normal. This condition is congenital, which means you were born with it.
The two hip joints connect the pelvis to the thighbones (femurs). At each side of the pelvic bone there is a depression. This depression is also called the hip socket. The femoral head sits in the hip socket. The femoral head is the rounded, top end of the femur.
Hip joints that are shaped differently from birth do not necessarily cause any problems to start with. It may cause pain when walking later. It may also make the movements in the hip joint more difficult.
