T86.52: Skin graft loss
You had tissue from another person grafted. This tissue is now damaged.
You had skin grafted. Skin is sometimes grafted when, for example, someone has a large wound or has had tissue removed. Sometimes, along with the skin, the underlying fatty tissue, connective tissue or muscle tissue is also grafted.
When tissue is donated, the patient’s tissue and the donated tissue should be as similar to one another as possible. Otherwise the immune system may attack the donated tissue. For example, the immune system also fights altered body cells or disease pathogens. Therefore certain tissue characteristics are compared before a tissue donation. For example, one such characteristic of a tissue is the blood group.
The tissue you had grafted has died because your immune system attacked it. The skin may then turn black, for example.
