Z91.73: Personal history of female genital mutilation, type 3

Your external genital organs were cut in the past.

The external female genital organs include the labia, the clitoris and the skin around the vagina.

This type of cut involves the labia being partly or completely removed. The wound is then stapled or stitched together to leave just a small opening. The urine and period blood are then to be discharged via the small opening. Other parts of the clitoris may also be removed.

The cut can cause various health problems. It may be painful. The tissue that was cut can become scarred. You may have problems when urinating. The period blood may also not flow away properly. Sex may be painful, and problems can occur if giving birth to a child.
