Z96.4: Presence of endocrine implants

You have artificial material in your body that releases messenger substances.

Messenger substances are also called hormones. Messenger substances control many processes in the body such as digestion or growth.

For example, you may have an insulin pump. The messenger substance insulin ensures that the sugar from the blood is absorbed into the cells. Insulin is produced by specific tissue in the pancreas. With diabetes, you have insufficient insulin in your body.

It is also possible for artificial material in your body to release specific sex hormones. Sometimes messenger substances will also be used to treat breast cancers.
