ENT examinations: Olfactometry and gustometry
You have had tests to determine how well you can smell or taste.
The sense of smell also affects how well we can taste some things.
This type of testing involves the use of odorous or flavoring substances at specified strengths. For example, the odorous substances are held under the person’s nose and they have to name them. The flavoring substances are sprayed onto the tongue, for example. The person then has to say what sort of taste it is.
Additional indicator
If necessary, additional letters are appended to OPS codes to indicate which side of the body is affected.
- L: Left
- R: Right
- B: Both sides
