1-610.1:
Diagnostic endoscopy of upper respiratory tract: Diagnostic laryngoscopy: Indirect
Your larynx has been examined.
The larynx can be seen particularly well in men as a bulging area at the front of the neck. This area is also called the Adam’s apple. The larynx is important for breathing and speaking. It consists mainly of cartilage, ligaments, and muscles. The vocal cords are also located in the larynx.
To carry out the examination, a thin tube is inserted through the nose or mouth. A camera is attached to the end of the tube. This camera then sends images to a screen during the examination. It can then be seen whether the tissue is healthy or changed.
However, a tube with a mirror at the tip is also sometimes used to examine the larynx. The larynx can be viewed using the mirror. This examination also enables the movements of the vocal cords to be assessed.
