Incisional and intraoperative diagnostic endoscopy: Diagnostic endoscopy of pouch of Douglas (culdoscopy)

You have undergone an endoscopy of the abdominal cavity.

The abdominal cavity is the body cavity in which the abdominal organs are located. The deepest part of your abdominal cavity has been examined. This area is behind the uterus. The uterus or womb sits in the pelvis and is pear-shaped. The narrower part extends downward into the vagina and is called the cervix. When a woman is pregnant, the child grows in her uterus. The vagina is tubular and leads from the outside to the uterus.

Endoscopy is used to examine the deepest part of the inside of the abdominal cavity. For this purpose, a thin scope is inserted into the abdominal cavity through an incision in the vagina. Images from the examined area can be transmitted to the outside via the scope. In this way, the inside of the abdominal cavity can be viewed and assessed for any changes.
