Challenge tests: Specific allergen challenge tests

A test was carried out to see whether you have an allergic reaction.

With an allergy, the immune system overreacts to certain substances. Such substances may be harmless substances in the environment, drugs or certain chemicals, for example.

An allergy may be accompanied by a range of symptoms. For example, you may experience sneezing, swellings or changes to your skin. The eyes and skin may feel itchy. When allergic reactions are very severe, you may suffer from breathlessness or circulatory problems.

The test involves administering a substance that aims to trigger the allergic reaction. This substance is administered into the nose, the eyes or the airways. It can also be administered on or beneath the skin, in the mouth, or into a blood vessel. Observations are then taken to see whether any allergic reaction occurs.
