Diagnostic puncture and aspiration: Diagnostic puncture and aspiration of intracranial cavity
A sample has been taken from a cavity inside your skull.
The skull is the bony part of the head that protects the brain. In and around the brain there are several cavities filled with fluid. Some conditions also cause additional cavities to be formed inside the skull. To take a sample through the skull bone, a small hole is drilled into the bone beforehand. For this procedure the person is given an anesthetic so that they do not feel any pain. The sample is then taken with a needle. The sample can then be examined in a laboratory.
