Other diagnostic puncture and aspiration: Diagnostic percutaneous puncture of joint or bursa: Shoulder joint
Synovial fluid has been taken with a needle from your shoulder joint.
The synovial fluid helps the joint’s surfaces to glide past each other. The synovial fluid also nourishes the cartilage that lines the joint surfaces of bones.
The fluid taken can then be examined in the laboratory. Any indications of inflammation are searched for, for example.
