Operations on chest wall, pleura, mediastinum and diaphragm: Pleurodesis [obliteration of the pleural space]: By instillation

The space around your lungs has been sealed.

The lungs are surrounded by a smooth membrane. A smooth membrane like this is also located inside the ribs. There is a narrow cavity between the two membranes. This cavity is filled with some fluid.

Certain conditions can cause too much fluid or air to build up in the space around the lungs. The aim of sealing the gap around the lungs is to prevent this.

The treatment involved you having a tube in the space between your lungs and ribs. A drug was introduced into the space via this tube.
