Incision, excision and closure of blood vessels: Incision, embolectomy and thrombectomy of blood vessels: Carotid artery, stent

You have had an artery in your head or neck opened up by an incision.

Arteries are blood vessels that transport blood away from the heart. They supply all the tissue in the body with oxygen-rich blood.

In the past you had a small tube implanted into the artery in your head or neck. The purpose of this type of synthetic tube is to keep an artery open.

When a blood vessel is surgically opened, deposits or blood clots can be removed from the inside of the blood vessel or from the synthetic tube.

Additional indicator

If necessary, additional letters are appended to OPS codes to indicate which side of the body is affected.
