5-383.97:

Incision, excision and closure of blood vessels: Resection and replacement (interposition) of (parts of) blood vessels: Inferior vena cava

A piece has been removed from your inferior vena cava.

Veins are blood vessels that transport the blood back to the heart.

The venae cavae are large blood vessels. They collect oxygen-poor blood from the body and carry it back to the heart. There is a superior and inferior vena cava.

Sections of blood vessels may be removed, for example, if the blood vessel is enlarged there. A replacement, either from the person’s own body or an artificial one, can then be implanted into the blood vessel.

Additional indicator

If necessary, additional letters are appended to OPS codes to indicate which side of the body is affected.

  • L: Left
  • R: Right
  • B: Both sides
