Other operations on blood vessels and additional information about operations on blood vessels: Other blood vessel operations: Implantation or replacement of venous indwelling catheter systems (e.g. for chemotherapy or pain therapy)

A tube has been inserted into one of your veins and is to stay there for a considerable length of time.

Veins are blood vessels that transport the blood back to the heart. There are different reasons why a tube is placed in a vein for a considerable length of time. The type of tube also differs. The tube may be located on the neck or collarbone, for example.

The end of the tube may be connected to a chamber under the skin or lead out of the body. The tube can be used to take blood or to inject drugs, for example. This kind of tube can also be used to clean blood with a special device.
