Operations on spleen and bone marrow: Removal of hematopoietic stem cells from bone marrow and peripheral blood for transplantation and of peripheral blood cells for transfusion: Hematopoietic stem cells from peripheral blood: For allogeneic donation (related or unrelated)
Stem cells have been taken from your blood. These stem cells are to be donated to another person later on.
Stem cells are cells that can develop into different types of cells. For example, blood cells can develop from stem cells. Stem cells are found in the blood and inside some bones.
Before stem cells are taken from someone’s blood, they are given a certain drug. This drug causes more stem cells to get from inside the bone to the blood. So there are more stem cells than usual in the blood.
The stem cells are extracted from the blood over a period of hours. For this purpose, tubes are inserted into certain blood vessels. The blood gets from the body to a device via the tubes. This device uses a special method to extract the stem cells from the blood. The blood is then put back into the body.
Additional indicator
If necessary, additional letters are appended to OPS codes to indicate which side of the body is affected.
