Operations on the kidney: Nephrectomy: Nephrectomy, radical, with endoscopic ureter exeresis: Open surgical lumbar

Your kidney and your ureter have been removed.

There are 2 kidneys in the body. There is one on each side of the spine just below the ribcage. Each kidney is made up of renal tissue and a renal pelvis. The renal tissue purifies the blood and, by doing so, produces urine. The urine gathers in the renal pelvis. The ureter is a thin, muscular tube in the abdomen. There is usually one ureter on each side. The urine flows from the kidney, via the ureter, to the bladder.

The operation involved making one or more large incisions in one side of your body. That way your kidney was removed.

You also had your ureter removed using a tube. To do this, the tube was pushed into your bladder through your urethra.

Additional indicator

If necessary, additional letters are appended to OPS codes to indicate which side of the body is affected.

  • L: Left
  • R: Right
  • B: Both sides
