Repositioning of fracture and luxation: Open repositioning of a multiple fragment fracture in the joint area of a long bone: By intramedullary wire: Distal femur
You have broken your femur (thighbone) and had an operation on it.
The femur has an upper, middle and lower section. The lower section of the femur is connected to the lower leg bones by the knee joint. The lower section of your femur is broken. The break consists of multiple broken parts.
You had an operation to bring the broken parts of your femur back together and put them into their normal position. The break was stabilized using wires or nails into the bone.
The purpose of the nails or wires is to stabilize the bone from inside. To achieve this, they are inserted into the space inside the bone.
