OPS-Code 8-401.4:

Skeletal traction: Traction using Kirschner wires: Calcaneus

A fracture to your heel bone was treated.

The foot is made up of a lot of small bones and joints. The lower leg is connected to the tarsus. Then comes the metatarsus and then the individual toes. The heel bone is part of the tarsus. It is located at the back of the foot. You can feel your calcaneus in your heel.

The treatment involved a special wire being inserted into the bone. A clamp was attached to the wire. This allows tension to be applied to the bone pieces. This is to make the bone pieces be realigned correctly and also immobilized.

Additional indicator
